In a meeting held today, Acting President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani called for strengthened ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in sectors such as education, health, agriculture, and culture.
Speaking with the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Pakistan, Md. Iqbal Hussain Khan, he highlighted the significant potential for cooperation between the two nations.
During the discussions, the Acting President expressed optimism that a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding for the supply of white rice from Pakistan to Bangladesh would boost bilateral trade. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to nurturing its relationship with Bangladesh, rooted in common faith, shared history, and cultural similarities.
The Acting President praised Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the Government of Bangladesh, for his impactful contributions to micro-finance and social development, acknowledging the respect he commands in Pakistan.
High Commissioner Md. Iqbal Hussain Khan pointed out the potential for health tourism and expressed interest in Bangladeshi students pursuing higher education in Pakistani universities. The Acting President assured his full support and cooperation in enhancing bilateral ties across all areas of mutual interest.
The meeting also stressed the importance of improving air and shipping connections to facilitate trade and strengthen people-to-people linkages between the two countries.
