Denmark, Pakistan Explore Local Insulin Production for Improved Healthcare

Denmark’s Ambassador met with Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal on March 18 to discuss bilateral cooperation in the health sector and related initiatives. The ambassador congratulated Mustafa Kamal on assuming office and provided an update on ongoing health projects between Denmark and Pakistan.

Minister Kamal acknowledged Pakistan’s longstanding ties with Denmark and underscored the importance of collaboration in addressing health challenges. He highlighted that 33 million people in Pakistan are affected by diabetes and pointed out the country’s struggle with both communicable and non-communicable diseases.

The Danish ambassador noted that Novo Nordisk is currently the only Danish company supplying insulin to Pakistan. In response, Mustafa Kamal proposed importing raw materials for insulin and producing it locally instead of relying solely on direct imports. The ambassador shared that Denmark plans to establish repackaging facilities in Pakistan as a step toward expanding local production.

Mustafa Kamal reaffirmed that the Government of Pakistan welcomes foreign investment and is committed to facilitating business opportunities in the health sector. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in healthcare to improve access to essential treatments and strengthen Pakistan’s health infrastructure.
