A Parliamentary Delegation from Pakistan is actively participating in the IPU Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians, emphasizing the shared commitment to gender equality by both Pakistan and Mexico.
Senator Nasima Ehsan and Senator Zamir Ghumro are representing Pakistan at the conference. Ghumro stressed the necessity of affirmative actions to achieve gender parity.
Nasima Ehsan, addressing the gathering, highlighted the progress made by Pakistan in incorporating women into politics. She pointed out that the Pakistani Constitution ensures equal rights for women and mentioned reserved seats in legislative bodies as a positive step toward empowering women in decision-making roles.
She also recognized the historic achievements of women in Pakistani politics, citing Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto as the first female Prime Minister of the Muslim world and Mohtarma Maryam Nawaz as the current Chief Minister of Punjab. She acknowledged existing challenges and outlined the initiatives taken by Pakistan to address these issues.
The efforts of the Pakistani delegation received commendation from international participants, who praised Pakistan’s strides toward promoting gender equality.
