Karachi minor boy sexually abused, murdered

Karachi: Unidentified people murdered a nine-year-old minor boy after sexually abusing him in Korangi Zaman Town area of Karachi on Saturday. The police have confirmed that minor Hussain was sexually abused. The police have arrested two accused, besides registering an FIR into the incident. Hussain’s dead body was recovered from a car owned by Shahzad, a resident of the same locality.

Hussain, who is mentally handicapped, was residing in Korangi Zaman Town. He left the home on Friday but did not return. Later, his dead body was recovered late on Friday night from Shahzad’s car, a resident of the same area.

As per the preliminary report, Shahzad left his home with his family to buy some medicines. At the parking area, he found Hussain’s dead body in his car. He informed the police about the body. Police, taking immediate action, arrested watchman Asim of the parking stand and he owner of the car.

The FIR was lodged by Hussain’s father Meezan at Zaman Town Police Station. Hussain’s family along with residents of the area staged a protest demonstration after the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. They also demanded of the government to punish the culprits publicly.

They said police had completely failed to check dacoity incidents, abuse of children sexually and other crimes. The demanded of the high-ups to take immediate action and the real criminal behind the incident should be arrested.

Meanwhile, slain Hussain’s funeral prayer was offered at a local mosque in Korangi amid sobbing and sighs. He was laid to rest in local graveyard. On the other hand, the police have given assurance to family members of Hussain that the accused will be nabbed soon.

Baby diapers’ prices surge by Rs600 per packet

Karachi: The inflation has peaked in the country breaking all previous records and affecting not only the poor but also the middle-class families on Saturday. The lower middle class is seriously pondering over the prevailing circumstances for its survival.

Different companies have increased prices of baby diapers from Rs200-600. The baby diapers’ packet costing Rs 1,950 is now selling at Rs 2,500. Diapers with previous price of Rs 2,300 is selling at Rs 2,600.

People said that if they buy kitchen items, they are unable to purchase their medicines. They further complained that payment of bills, purchase of ration, daily use items and vegetables had now become a herculean task for them. They wondered what the government actually wanted to do with the poor strata of society.

Punjab IGP visits home of PTI Zille Shah

Lahore: Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Anwar on Saturday visited the home of Ali Bilal alias Zille Shah and offered his condolences to his father. The IGP also updated his father on the progress made on investigation into his son’s death. He assured Zille’s father that justice would be done in his son’s case, and that he would remain in touch with him until he felt satisfied.

On the other hand, Zille’s father Liaquat Ali has said he does not want to file a murder case against anybody. “I was in a shock the day I learnt about my son’s death,” he said, adding, “I don’t want any action to be taken in the case unless it is fully investigated.” He also said he was not under any kind of pressure, and wanted the police to investigate the case on merit.

Nepra raises power tariff for export sector, growers

Islamabad: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has raised the power tariff by Rs12.13 per unit for export sector and Rs3.60 per unit for growers, it emerged Saturday.

According to official information, with this, the government has withdrawn Rs65 billion subsidy it used to provide to the farmers and the export sector. The Nepra has sent the notification of the decision to the federal government.

According to the Nepra decision, it is the federal government’s prerogative to give or withdraw subsidy. The power regulatory body said that it has no objection to the withdrawal of power subsidy to export sector and farmers.

The export sector will no longer be able to get electricity at subsidized rate of Rs19.99 per unit.

The agriculture consumers could get power at Rs16.60 per unit instead of Rs13 per unit. The government has withdrawn Rs3.60 per unit subsidy given to agriculture consumers under the Kissan package.

Punjab elections: Filing of nomination papers to begin tomorrow

Lahore: Candidates for Punjab Assembly election can submit their nomination papers to the Returning Officers from March 12 to 14, according to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) information on Saturday.

In a statement, the election watchdog said that the names of nominated candidates will be published on March 15while the scrutiny process of nomination papers will continue till 22. The appeals can be filed against the rejection or acceptance of nominations papers till 27th.

The appellate tribunal will decide the appeals till 3rd of next month. The revised list of candidates will be published on 4th. The candidates could withdraw their nomination papers up to April 05 and election symbols to candidates will be allotted on April 06, the ECP announced.

) 17 police officers fired for skipping census security duty

Karachi: The Karachi police department took serious punitive action against 17 police officials for performing their ‘on filed’ census security duty by sitting idle at their homes on Saturday.

According to a report, the SSP District Central, Karachi took to task 17 police officials who shirked their duty and stayed at homes. These officials were deployed to provide security duty to census staff.

SSP Central Maroof Usman fired all these police officials for showing negligence in the performance of their duty.

Like other parts of the country, the first digital population census started in Sindh on March 1 which will continue till April 1.

FIA offloads passenger from KSA-bound flight at Lahore Airport

Lahore: The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) immigration team, in an operation at Lahore airport, offloaded a passenger travelling to Saudi Arabia on Saturday. The FIA team, on searching Rana Tehseen, recovered bogus visas for South Africa and other documents. Tehseen is a resident of Sialkot.

The preliminary investigation suggested that the accused got tickets and visas from two different agents after paying Rs1.2 million. Both agents were in contact with the accused through an international WhatsApp number. Rana Tehseen was travelling to Saudi Arabia through flight SV-735. The accused has been shifted to Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Lahore for further investigation, said an FIA spokesperson.

Pakistan reports 71 coronavirus cases in 24 hours

Karachi: Pakistan has reported no death in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of confirmed positive cases surged to 1,577,483. The nationwide tally of fatalities stood at 30,644 on Saturday.

According to the latest figures issued by the National Institute of Health (NIH), at least 71 people were tested positive for Covid-19 across the country in the past 24 hours.

Pakistan has conducted 4,860 tests in the past 24 hours, out of which 71 people were tested positive. The Covid positivity ratio was recorded at 1.46 per cent.

Punjab CM says PTI worker did not die of torture

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi on Saturday has said that PTI worker Ali Bilal alias Zille Shah who lost his life during March 8 unrest outside Zaman Park did not die of torture.

Addressing a news conference along with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Usman Anwar in Lahore, the chief minister threw light on the March 8 violent protest. The chief minister said the incident of death of any citizen is not an ordinary one and the PTI worker did not die due to violence.

While accusing the PTI leaders of hurling baseless allegations against him, Mohsin Naqvi labelled their accusations as a bundle of lies. “We have nothing to do with politics. You can do politics the way you like but please don’t mislead people or tell lies,” he declared.

A belligerent chief minister categorically stated that the PTI worker’s death was the result of a traffic incident but the party leaders still hurling accusations at him. “It became my duty to respond after they accused me of murder,” he added. “We have nothing to do with politics. I did not want to talk, but false accusations are being hurled at me,” he rued.

He said that it was a blind murder case. He disclosed that the father of Ali Bilal was offered Rs10 million to bring false evidence against him. CM Naqvi said resolutely that election in Punjab would be held on April 30 but efforts were being made to disturb the peaceful atmosphere in the province. IGP Usman Anwar said that action would be taken against those involved in the death of the PTI worker as investigation into the death was under way.

PTI worker Ali Bilal’s body was brought to Services Hospital in a black vehicle at 6:52 pm and the driver of the vehicle was identified as Jahanzeb, the IGP said, adding those arrested in connection with this killing will be presented in court.

The IG police said that Bilal’s father Liaquat Ali filed an application seeking investigation into his son’s death. It was decided that no details would be shared till confirmation of the veracity of the information. He vowed that police would take action against those involved in Bilal’s murder.

The IG revealed that the police uncovered a false campaign being run on social media. He said that a doppelganger of Zille Shah was being shown on social media and wrong information was being shared on it. He told the media that Bilal’s death was caused by an accident. The police chief said that if anyone thinks that he would succumb to pressure, then he is wrong.

He said Zille Shah was an innocent man. He said police were not ordered to torture any worker during the rally. The car in which Bilal was taken to the hospital was driven by Jahanzeb. Another person, Umar was also sitting in the car. The blood of Bilal was also found in the car, he added. He revealed that the owner of the car is Shakeel. He said the car was tracked with the help of 31 CCTV cameras from Gul Bahar colony basement.

CM Naqvi said that Raja Shakeel who is PTI central Punjab leader shared all details of the incident with Yasmeen Rashid at 8:30pm. Raja Shakeel went to Zaman Park along with Dr Yasmeen. He stayed outside and Dr Yasmeen went inside Imran Khan’s house. But Shakeel’s meeting with PTI chief could not be held. Then he (Shakeel) made a call to Zubair Niazi, the CM added.

Mr Naqvi told the presser that if people could listen to the audio, then there would be no need of any forensic. Mr Naqvi said the IG will himself visit the victim’s father, adding the Punjab government will also extend financial assistance to the heirs which it usually does.

“They did a great injustice to me and the police administration. This should not have happened,” he maintained. He also took exception to the PTI for its decision to take out a rally on a day when other public gatherings related to Aurat March and other marches taking place in Lahore.
