Over 10m people living in Pakistan’s flood-affected areas still lack access to safe drinking water: UNICEF

ISLAMABAD: Despite lapse of six months after the catastrophic floods struck Pakistan, more than 10-million people, including children, living in flood-affected areas remain deprived of safe drinking water, leaving families with no alternative but to drink and use potentially disease-ridden water. Even before the floods, despite the country’s drinking water supply system covering 92 per cent of the population, only 36 per cent of the water was considered safe for consumption. The floods damaged most of the water systems in affected areas, compelling more than 5.4 million people, including 2.5 million children, to solely rely on contaminated water from ponds

BHC hosts returning Chevening scholars, renews commitment to girls’ education

ISLAMABAD: The British High Commission (BHC) on Tuesday organized a reception for returning Chevening scholars who were awarded the scholarships for the year 2021-22. Through a rigorous recruitment process, 42 Pakistanis were selected for the Chevening scholarship last year. Half of those selected consisted of female scholars who went to study master’s programme at the UK Universities. ISLAMABAD: International Day of Forests was observed on Tuesday, to raise awareness regarding importance of forests for the benefit of current and future generations. This year’s theme of the day is ‘Forests and Health,’ which calls for giving, not just taking, recognizing that healthy forests will bring healthy people. Govt announces Ramazan Relief Package worth Rs5b

ISLAMABAD: The government on Tuesday announced a Ramazan Relief Package worth five billion rupees to provide maximum relief to the poor segment of society during the holy month of Ramazan across the country.
