Karachi minor boy sexually abused, murdered

Karachi: Unidentified people murdered a nine-year-old minor boy after sexually abusing him in Korangi Zaman Town area of Karachi on Saturday. The police have confirmed that minor Hussain was sexually abused. The police have arrested two accused, besides registering an FIR into the incident. Hussain’s dead body was recovered from a car owned by Shahzad, a resident of the same locality.

Hussain, who is mentally handicapped, was residing in Korangi Zaman Town. He left the home on Friday but did not return. Later, his dead body was recovered late on Friday night from Shahzad’s car, a resident of the same area.

As per the preliminary report, Shahzad left his home with his family to buy some medicines. At the parking area, he found Hussain’s dead body in his car. He informed the police about the body. Police, taking immediate action, arrested watchman Asim of the parking stand and he owner of the car.

The FIR was lodged by Hussain’s father Meezan at Zaman Town Police Station. Hussain’s family along with residents of the area staged a protest demonstration after the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. They also demanded of the government to punish the culprits publicly.

They said police had completely failed to check dacoity incidents, abuse of children sexually and other crimes. The demanded of the high-ups to take immediate action and the real criminal behind the incident should be arrested.

Meanwhile, slain Hussain’s funeral prayer was offered at a local mosque in Korangi amid sobbing and sighs. He was laid to rest in local graveyard. On the other hand, the police have given assurance to family members of Hussain that the accused will be nabbed soon.

Baby diapers’ prices surge by Rs600 per packet

Karachi: The inflation has peaked in the country breaking all previous records and affecting not only the poor but also the middle-class families on Saturday. The lower middle class is seriously pondering over the prevailing circumstances for its survival.

Different companies have increased prices of baby diapers from Rs200-600. The baby diapers’ packet costing Rs 1,950 is now selling at Rs 2,500. Diapers with previous price of Rs 2,300 is selling at Rs 2,600.

People said that if they buy kitchen items, they are unable to purchase their medicines. They further complained that payment of bills, purchase of ration, daily use items and vegetables had now become a herculean task for them. They wondered what the government actually wanted to do with the poor strata of society.

) 17 police officers fired for skipping census security duty

Karachi: The Karachi police department took serious punitive action against 17 police officials for performing their ‘on filed’ census security duty by sitting idle at their homes on Saturday.

According to a report, the SSP District Central, Karachi took to task 17 police officials who shirked their duty and stayed at homes. These officials were deployed to provide security duty to census staff.

SSP Central Maroof Usman fired all these police officials for showing negligence in the performance of their duty.

Like other parts of the country, the first digital population census started in Sindh on March 1 which will continue till April 1.

Carrefour partners with Pink Ribbon to raise Breast Cancer awareness

KARACHI: Carrefour, owned and operated by Majid Al Futtaim in Pakistan, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pink Ribbon Pakistan, a non-government organisation dedicated to breast cancer awareness. According to a report, Carrefour will fully support Pink Ribbon in collecting donations for completing Pakistan’s first dedicated breast cancer hospital in Lahore.

 

During a formal ceremony held at Carrefour head office in Lahore, the agreement was signed by Majid Barzegar, District Manager of Carrefour Pakistan and Omer Aftab, Founder and Chief Executive of Pink Ribbon. Under the signed agreement, Carrefour is to join hands with Pink Ribbon for awareness campaigns in store and through its digital platforms for the noble cause to save lives. Donation boxes will be placed at all Carrefour stores across the country to raise funds for the hospital. Pink Ribbon has announced free-of-cost breast ultrasounds and consultations for Carrefour female colleagues throughout the year.

 

Umer Lodhi, Country Manager of Carrefour Pakistan at Majid Al Futtaim Retail said, “In Pakistan, one in every nine women may eventually develop breast cancer, and the same disease claims many lives. We are happy to be partnering with Pink Ribbon to increase public awareness of breast cancer and to aid in the organisation’s efforts to generate funds for the country’s first breast cancer hospital.”

 

While speaking on the occasion, Omer Aftab, Founder and Chief Executive of Pink Ribbon said, “We are pleased to collaborate with Carrefour to spread awareness on breast cancer, frequent check-ups, treatments, and more. JI Karachi chief asks court to hold polls on 11 UC seats

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) Karachi Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said Friday He submitted before the court that elections were not held on 11 seats of union council chairmen and vice chairmen in Karachi owing to the death of candidates or other reasons. Talking to media, he asked the court to order the Election Commission to hold elections on these 11 seats immediately so that the mayor of Karachi could be elected.

 

He said the JI was the most successful party in the recently held local government elections in Karachi. Naeem said the JI had given a proof to the Election Commission about its success in five union councils, but the commission had become a political tool of the PPP. He said the ECP was duty bound to conduct transparent and impartial elections. It was not performing its constitutional obligation. “Why are the results of 11 union councils not being announced?” the JI leader questioned.

 

He claimed that the PPP wished that elections would not be held in these 11 union councils as it would face defeat. Hafiz Naeem had moved the Sindh High Court, seeking an order for the commission to hold elections in the remaining union committees of the city.

Foreign plane makes emergency landing at Karachi Airport after bird-hit

KARACHI: A bird Friday hit the engine of a Dubai-bound foreign airlines plane, forcing it to make an emergency landing a few seconds after takeoff at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi. According to the airport sources, the engine of the plane was seriously damaged after being hit by the bird. The bird crashed into the engine after Fly Dubai flight FZ 334 took off from the airport to Dubai, and after the hit, the engine started making terrible sounds.

 

The pilot reported an emergency to the control tower, and upon receiving instructions, he landed the plane back at the airport. The passengers were removed the plane and shifted to the transit lounge.

Sindh government to launch FM radio channel

KARACHI:A big development emerged on Tuesday as the Sindh government decided to launch FM radio channel for immediate, accurate awareness and guidance for the general public in natural calamities, emergency situations, traffic accidents and terrorism incidents.

 

The broadcast of the radio channel will be launched across the province. The decision to this effect is taken in a meeting of the Information Department chaired by Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon at his office.

 

Secretary Information Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon, Director Admin Muhammad Yousuf Kabooro, Director Advertisements Imtiaz Joyo, Director Press Information Hassan Asghar Naqvi and others attended the meeting. The Provincial Minister directed to activate all the directorates of the information department to publicize the development projects of the Sindh government.

 

He added that the Sindh government had completed hundreds of mega projects for the public welfare across the province but these projects not highlighted effectively. He said that the best hospitals were functioning in Sindh including NICVD, SIUT, Cyberknife and Gambat Hospitals which are not only serving Sindh but also the whole of Pakistan and people of neighboring countries.

 

Similarly, he added that exemplary work has been done in the fields of road network, education, social protection and sectors. He directed that the Sindh Government’s narrative of development, prosperity and public welfare should be built effectively; this is the primary responsibility of the Information Department of Sindh. He directed to obtain the details of development projects completed in the last 15 years from the planning and development department and make short stories and video clips for the knowledge of the public. The minister further directed to focus on the social media directorate, and make it more effective.

 

Sindh police to establish Counter Terrorism Quick Response Unit

KARACHI:Following recent terrorists attack at the Karachi Police Office, the Sindh police have announced to establish a Counter Terrorism Quick Response Unit to counter terrorists and foil their nefarious designs.

 

According to a report on Monday., Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) is considering to train as many as 100 officials for commando training as a measure in the wake of recent militant attacks across Pakistan.

 

According to the CTD, Pakistan Bahria’s Special Service Group (SSG) will be appointed to train the group of 25 individuals this month. The CTD Commando Group will be the first to respond in case of any terror attack reported across the province.

 

It may be noted that that on Feb 17, a gang of three terrorists attacked the Karachi police chief’s office along Shahrah-e-Faisal. The death toll in the terrorist incident, claimed by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), were recorded at five. Terrorists wearing suicide vests and carrying automatic weapons and grenades attacked the Karachi Police Office located on the city’s main artery.

 

3,189 vehicles impounded in road checking campaign

KARACHI:A total of 44,029 vehicles have been checked till the end of 17th day of the campaign to collect tax from the owners of tax defaulting vehicles, a Info Department statement said on Sunday.

Due to various reasons, 3,189 vehicles were impounded while documents of 3,733 were seized. During the road checking campaign, till the 17th day, about Rs52,279,681 tax has been collected. 13,059 vehicles in Karachi, 14,207 in Hyderabad, 4,829 in Sukkur, 5,716 in Mirpurkhas, 3,986 in Larkana, and 2,232 in Shaheed Benazirabad were checked. Provincial Minister for Excise Taxation and Narcotics Control Department Mukesh Kumar Chawla in his statement has requested the tax defaulters to deposit their due taxes on time.

He further said that the vehicles running without number plate, fancy number plate, applied for registration and open letter would be impounded and road checking campaign to nab the tax defaulting vehicles would continue till 10th march.
