In a powerful display of youthful determination and environmental advocacy, the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI), in partnership with the Progressive Climate Foundation (PCF), hosted the highly anticipated PCF Climate Youth Summit 2025 at the iconic Allama Iqbal Hall on the Faisal Mosque campus.
The event was a beacon of hope for sustainable development and climate resilience in Pakistan. Themed “Voices of the Future: Climate Dialogue in Youth Leadership,” the summit provided an invaluable platform for youth leaders, environmental experts, policymakers, and civil society figures to engage in meaningful discussions and share innovative ideas. The event kicked off with a solemn recitation from the Holy Quran and the national anthem, setting a respectful tone for the day’s proceedings. Hosts Zonia Kareem and Quratulain Farooq warmly welcomed attendees before Mr. Tawseef Khan, Founder and CEO of PCF, delivered the opening address, underscoring the critical role of community involvement and youth participation in climate advocacy efforts.
The summit’s highlight was the attendance of Senator Dr. Sherry Rehman, Chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change, as the chief guest. In her compelling keynote speech, Dr. Rehman addressed Pakistan’s pressing climate challenges, such as escalating temperatures, water shortages, and public health concerns. She passionately advocated for the inclusion of climate education in school curricula and commended IIUI and PCF for their significant contributions to public awareness and community initiatives.
A notable panel discussion featured esteemed academics and climate professionals, including Dr. Sarah Amir, Academic In-Charge of the Department of Environmental Science and focal person of the Green Youth Movement Club. Dr. Amir highlighted the academic sector’s vital role in shaping climate policy and mobilizing young people for environmental action.
The event also saw an award ceremony honoring participants in the PCF Climate Action Fellowship for their exemplary work in climate research and local engagement. Dr. Rukhsana Tariq, Student Advisor at IIUI, lauded the collaborative spirit of the summit and emphasized the importance of institutional efforts in fostering environmental leadership.
Concluding the summit, Dr. Syeda Maria Ali, Chairperson of the Environmental Science Department, extended heartfelt gratitude to all contributors and reaffirmed IIUI’s unwavering dedication to promoting climate literacy and action. A subsequent networking session allowed participants to forge connections and explore potential collaborations for environmental initiatives across Pakistan, leaving attendees inspired and motivated for future endeavors.
