Dutch Olympian and Ambassador Grace PU Sports Event

In a spirited celebration of sports and diplomacy, the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Pakistan, H.E. Henny Fokel De Vries, and renowned Dutch Olympian Floris Jan Bovelander, visited the Punjab University Department of Sports. Their visit marked a significant event, bringing together sports enthusiasts and dignitaries in a vibrant display of international camaraderie.

The distinguished guests were warmly welcomed by Director Dr. Muhammad Shabbir Sarwar, alongside notable figures from the Prime Minister Youth Program, including Khawaja Junaid and Rizwan Anwar, as well as celebrated footballer Kainat. The event was highlighted by enthusiastic hockey, football, and basketball matches held in honor of the visiting Olympian.

Bovelander, famed for his prowess on the hockey field, took the opportunity to impart invaluable skills and tricks to aspiring players during a thrilling hockey match. His presence and expertise provided an inspiring experience for young athletes.

Ambassador Fokel expressed admiration for the performance and dedication of the women athletes at Punjab University, noting their exceptional contributions to sports. Bovelander, reminiscing about his past achievements, fondly recalled scoring two pivotal goals during the hockey finals in Lahore in 1990, adding a nostalgic touch to his return visit.

Dr. Shabbir Sarwar emphasized the university’s commitment to enhancing sports, aligning with the vision of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Ali. The event concluded with a promise from the ambassador and hockey legend to return to Punjab University, further strengthening the bonds of friendship through sports.
