Unapproved Mobile Phones by PTA Automatically Shut Down Under DIRBS

As a decisive measure to curb mobile phone fraud and smuggling, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has implemented strict actions under the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS). This system targets illegal or non-PTA approved mobile phones, automatically blocking devices with unregistered International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers.

Introduced by the PTA, DIRBS aims to streamline the mobile phone registration process across Pakistan. By targeting devices with unregistered IMEIs, the system effectively prevents unauthorized use, posing significant challenges for users of non-compliant devices.

To understand this regulatory scenario and ensure the continued use of mobile phones, consumers are encouraged to pay the necessary taxes to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and obtain official approval from the PTA. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to eliminate the circulation of illegal mobile devices and strengthen legal compliance within the telecommunications sector.
