On the invitation of Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker of Maldives Abdulla Shahid visited Parliament House. Speaker Sadiq warmly welcomed the Maldivian delegation. Both leaders exchanged views on strengthening bilateral parliamentary relations and also discussed regional and global issues. They expressed their commitment to enhancing mutual cooperation and improving people-to-people contact.
Speaker Sadiq highlighted the strong historical, cultural, and religious ties between Pakistan and Maldives. He termed parliamentary diplomacy an important tool for regional peace and development. He emphasized the importance of resolving the Palestine and Kashmir disputes for lasting peace in the region and urged the international community to strive for a just solution. He called for united efforts from the Muslim world to support the people of Palestine and Kashmir.
Speaker Sadiq lauded the spirit of the Pakistani armed forces and people in the war against terrorism. He termed the alliance of Israel and India a major threat to regional and world peace and appreciated the condemnation by Muslim countries of Israel’s bombing of Qatar. He termed Israel’s actions as grave human rights violations and genocide against Palestinians.
Speaker Sadiq strongly condemned Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir and reiterated Pakistan’s full support for the Kashmiris’ freedom struggle. He attributed the Pakistani nation and armed forces’ victory against India to national unity and the bravery and sacrifices of the army.
Speaker Sadiq advocated for the activation of SAARC and highlighted trade opportunities in Pakistan. He expressed hope that increased bilateral contact would build stronger ties between the people of both countries. He appreciated the role of the Pak-Maldives Friendship Group in promoting parliamentary relations.
Speaker Shahid thanked him for the warm welcome and affirmed the friendly relations between Maldives and Pakistan. He appreciated Pakistan’s strong stance on the Palestine and Kashmir issue and hoped that strengthening parliamentary relations would solidify people-to-people ties.
