The federal government is actively advancing measures to protect the rights and welfare of senior citizens, establishing dedicated financial and residential support systems under new legislation, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar announced today.
Speaking at a function in the capital, the minister underscored the administration’s firm resolve to enhance the legal and institutional structures designed for the well-being of the elderly population.
He pointed to the ICT Senior Citizens Act, 2021, as the cornerstone of these efforts. This pivotal law is the foundation for a series of tangible actions being executed to provide comprehensive care for older individuals.
Among the key initiatives being implemented are the creation of a specialized Senior Citizens Fund to provide financial assistance and the ongoing development of Darul Shafqat, a purpose-built old-age home located in Islamabad, aimed at offering a secure and dignified residence.
