Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif welcomed Sheikha Asma Al Thani, the first Qatari woman to summit Nanga Parbat, in Islamabad today, commending her historic achievement.

The Prime Minister praised Sheikha Asma’s bravery and strength in conquering the ‘Killer Mountain,’ calling her an inspiration for women globally. He recognized her efforts in advancing gender equality through adventure sports.

In honor of her feat and promotion of Pakistan’s natural wonders, the Prime Minister appointed Sheikha Asma Al Thani as a Brand Ambassador for the nation”s mountains and tourism.

He emphasized Pakistan’s status as a top destination for mountaineers, boasting five of the world”s fourteen highest peaks. He expressed gratitude for Sheikha Asma”s role in highlighting the country’s scenic landscapes and the challenges they present. The Prime Minister also acknowledged the crucial contributions of Pakistani highaltitude porters and guides. He underscored their expertise and dedication as essential to mountaineering successes.

Highlighting the strong relationship between Pakistan and Qatar, the Prime Minister noted Sheikha Asma”s achievement reflects shared national values of courage and perseverance. He expressed a desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation in adventure tourism, sports, and youth programs. He also commended her role as Vice President of the Gender Equality Commission in promoting equal opportunities.

The Prime Minister pledged continued government support for international climbers, guaranteeing necessary assistance, security, and hospitality. He encouraged Sheikha Asma, who has already ascended nine of the world”s 8,000meter peaks, to return to Pakistan for future expeditions.

Sheikha Asma Al Thani expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome she received. She recounted her recent Nanga Parbat climb, praising the assistance provided by local guides and the mountain”s splendor. Reflecting on her past climb of K2, she lauded it as the ‘best’ and a ‘complete’ mountain with unparalleled beauty. The Prime Minister conveyed his best wishes for Sheikha Asma’s future climbs and her continued efforts to motivate young people, particularly women, to pursue their aspirations.
