Germany is investing pound 27 million to build a new substation at Pakistan’s Gharo Wind Corridor, bolstering the nation”s renewable energy infrastructure.

The German government, via KfW Development Bank, announced the funding on Wednesday, with Siemens Energy and the National Grid Company of Pakistan (NGCP) signing a construction contract yesterday.

The investment will be crucial in transmitting power from the wind corridor, strengthening Pakistan”s shift towards sustainable energy. The project, part of the PakistanGerman Climate Energy Partnership (PGCEP), aims to improve Pakistan”s energy transmission network and integrate clean energy into the national grid.

Besides its environmental benefits, the project is anticipated to generate employment opportunities, boost local economies, and contribute to a more dependable power supply nationwide. KfW Country Director Sebastian Jacobi reiterated Germany”s commitment to aiding Pakistan in mitigating climate change and expanding clean energy access for socioeconomic advancement.

German Embassy Counsellor Janine Rohwer highlighted the project”s importance to IMFbacked economic reforms. Improving the transmission network is part of Pakistan”s costside reform commitments under the Extended Fund Facility, a program Germany hopes to see Pakistan successfully complete.
