Highlighting the importance of White Cane Safety Day, Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has declared the protection of the autonomy and dignity of visually impaired individuals a top priority of the government. In his special message on Wednesday, President Zardari called the white cane a symbol of courage, confidence, and self-reliance and appealed for public and institutional efforts to ensure inclusion for the visually impaired.

President Zardari emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive and equitable society, stating that these are the hallmarks of a developed nation. He affirmed that the Government of Pakistan is at the forefront of providing facilities for persons with disabilities and supports equal opportunities in the educational, economic, and social sectors.

The President also highlighted the rights of visually impaired individuals to love, respect, and support, stating that the white cane should be seen as a symbol of dignity and equality rather than a symbol of disability. He praised Pakistani diplomat Saima Saleem, who, despite her visual impairment, has set an example of courage, determination, and competence at the United Nations.

In his heartfelt message, President Zardari emphasized the collective strength in the inclusion and development of every individual’s abilities, stating that no disability can be a barrier to success. He appealed for the building of a Pakistan where no one is left behind and advocated for national development through mutual cooperation and the inclusion of all citizens.
