The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has granted taxpayers a final reprieve, pushing back the deadline for filing income tax returns for the 2025 tax year to October 31, while issuing a stern warning that no further postponements are anticipated.
This latest 16-day prolongation is the second such move by the tax authority. The previous deadline had been set for October 15 after an initial extension was granted two weeks ago to accommodate multiple requests from trade bodies and tax bar associations.
In a notification issued on Wednesday, the Board cited “genuine difficulties” faced by filers across the country as the reason for the decision. The FBR stated the measure aims to facilitate the public and ensure maximum compliance with tax regulations.
This development follows another recent step to simplify the filing procedure. Earlier this month, on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the “estimated market value” column was removed from the 2025 income tax return form, a move designed to provide relief to citizens.
The revenue authority has strongly urged all individuals and entities required to file to submit their returns within the newly established timeframe, reiterating that this is the final opportunity and the October 31 date is firm.
