Pakistan to Extend Railways Services to Central Asia

Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi on Tuesday announced a transformative initiative to expand Pakistan’s railway services into Central Asia, under the guidance of Prime Minister.

Speaking at a press briefing in Multan, Abbasi highlighted the pressing need to enhance the nation’s railway infrastructure to drive economic progress. He emphasized the strategic push to elevate both passenger and freight services, positioning Pakistan as a key player in regional connectivity. This move is seen as a pivotal step in boosting trade and fostering stronger ties with Central Asian countries.

The minister revealed plans to modernize the current railway network. A significant part of this upgrade includes transitioning 155 railway stations to solar power within the next two months. This eco-friendly approach aims to reduce operational costs and promote sustainability.

Furthermore, Abbasi assured that over 40 trains will soon offer complimentary Wi-Fi services, enhancing the travel experience for passengers. This digital upgrade is expected to attract more commuters, thereby increasing the railway”s revenue and operational efficiency.

The minister’s announcements underscore a broader government strategy to rejuvenate Pakistan Railways, making it an integral part of the nation’s development strategy. As these ambitious plans unfold, the country awaits a new era of enhanced connectivity and economic growth.
