Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar announced on Pakistan Day that the country remains firmly committed to eliminating terrorism, citing actions “inside Afghanistan” directed against specific threats. This resolve was reinforced by President Asif Ali Zardari, who stressed that no group would be permitted to use foreign soil to act against the country.
The pronouncements were made as the nation”s leadership paid tribute to the martyrs, ghazis, and national heroes who sacrificed for the creation and stability of Pakistan. In their messages, both the President and Prime Minister acknowledged that the country stands as a testament to the perseverance and sacrifices of its ancestors.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, stated that his government has successfully steered Pakistan”s economy towards sustainable growth despite facing numerous challenges.
On regional affairs, the premier linked sustainable peace in South Asia to a just settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir issue. He, along with the Deputy Prime Minister, reaffirmed Pakistan”s continued moral, political, and diplomatic support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir in their quest for the right to self-determination.
President Zardari, in his address, noted that Pakistan has made significant progress since its early post-independence challenges, highlighting the building of strong institutions, the enhancement of defence capabilities, and success in combating terrorism.
Mr Dar also paid homage to the nation”s founders, particularly the unwavering leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Amid current austerity measures, he expressed hope that the nation would remain steadfast and united to successfully navigate this challenge.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar conveyed the nation”s gratitude to the founders of Pakistan, including Quaid-e-Azam and the great thinker Allama Dr Muhammad Iqbal. He also saluted the martyrs and heroes who dedicated their lives to the defence of the homeland.
The leadership of the Armed Forces, including Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, extended their congratulations to the nation.
In their joint message, the military chiefs described March 23, 1940, as a defining moment that crystallised the collective vision for an independent state. They affirmed that the Armed Forces, alongside the resilient public and law enforcement agencies, remain united and unwavering in their resolve to eradicate threats to Pakistan”s security.
