Ambassador Misbah Khar, Special Envoy for the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), met with the Tunisian envoy to Pakistan at the Tunisian Embassy in Islamabad on Tuesday to discuss Tunisia’s involvement in the upcoming ISC. The discussion took place in a positive environment, centering on boosting bilateral parliamentary collaboration and Tunisia’s active role in the forthcoming conference. Ambassador Khar informed the Tunisian representative about the goals and purpose of the newly formed ISC, envisioned as a global gathering for parliamentary speakers and world leaders. She emphasized that the ISC will act as a crucial venue for dialogue and joint efforts on issues of peace, progress, stability, and security through inclusive parliamentary diplomacy and engagement.

Ambassador Khar highlighted Pakistan’s key position in this project, noting that Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani was unanimously chosen as the ISC’s first President. This selection, she said, signifies the international community’s trust in Pakistan’s guidance in advancing global parliamentary cooperation. Khar formally invited Tunisia’s leadership to the ISC’s first meeting, scheduled for November 11-12, 2025, in Islamabad, themed “Peace, Development, Stability, and Security.”

The Tunisian envoy welcomed Pakistan’s effort, commending the ISC’s formation as a timely move to bolster global parliamentary diplomacy. He reaffirmed the strong relationship between the two nations and pledged Tunisia’s full backing for Pakistan’s leadership in this significant multilateral parliamentary initiative. Expressing thanks for Tunisia’s support, Ambassador Khar reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to strengthening parliamentary ties with Tunisia and collaborating closely for a successful ISC, promoting international dialogue, peace, and stability. Tariq bin Waheed, Senior Director General (Protocol) of the Senate of Pakistan, also participated in the meeting.
