Pakistan, Ethiopia Seek Closer Economic, Trade, And Defense Collaboration

Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Ethiopian Ambassador Jemal Beker Abdula discussed strengthening economic, trade, and defense collaboration between their nations on Friday. They emphasized improving connectivity and interpersonal relationships.

During the meeting at Gilani’s residence, the Senate Chairman praised the recent commencement of direct flights between Karachi and Addis Ababa as a significant step in enhancing bilateral cooperation in aviation. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to bolstering economic partnerships with Ethiopia, particularly through expanded trade and investment.

Gilani proposed exporting Pakistani rice to Ethiopia, highlighting the high quality of Pakistani rice varieties. He also affirmed Pakistan’s dedication to expanding cooperation in economy, trade, and agriculture, suggesting that parliamentary exchanges would further solidify the relationship.

The Chairman announced an Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference in Pakistan in November and invited Ethiopia’s parliamentary leaders to attend. He stressed the value of interpersonal connections and the role of Parliamentary Friendship Groups in promoting parliamentary diplomacy.

Ambassador Abdula echoed Gilani’s sentiments, expressing Ethiopia’s interest in broadening bilateral cooperation. He revealed plans to expand direct flights to Islamabad and Lahore and emphasized mutual support on global issues, especially climate change initiatives.
