According to the department’s forecast, there is a risk of heavy rains and floods in different parts of the country from June 25. The Meteorological Department has announced that monsoon winds are already affecting the upper and central parts of the country and their intensity is likely to increase in the next few days. The situation will be further complicated by the entry of a western weather system into the upper regions on June 25.
Intermittent rain, strong winds and thunderstorms are expected in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan between June 24 and July 2, with particularly heavy rainfall predicted in some areas. Similar conditions will prevail in Punjab, Islamabad and surrounding areas from June 25 to July 1. Rain and strong winds are likely in South Punjab from June 26 to 28.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from June 25 to July 1. Stormy conditions are likely in northeastern and southern Balochistan from June 25 to 28. Intermittent rain and thunderstorms are also likely in upper and southeastern Sindh, including Karachi, during the same period.
The Meteorological Department has warned of the possibility of flooding in Murree, Galiyat and several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Kashmir between June 26 and July 1. There is also a risk of urban flooding in major cities like Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, Hyderabad and Karachi. Authorities have also warned of the possibility of landslides in mountainous areas and disruption to infrastructure due to strong winds and heavy rains.
