Meteorological Department Predicts Severe Heat and Dust Storms in Balochistan

The Meteorological Department’s Quetta Regional Center issued a weather forecast on Thursday, indicating prolonged periods of severe heat in most districts of Balochistan, with unusually high temperatures expected in Sibi, Nasirabad, and Rakhshan divisions. The forecast also warned of dust storms and strong winds affecting several areas including Nushki, Chagai, Kech, Panjgur, Awaran, Kharan, and Washuk within the next 48 hours.

In addition to the severe heat, some regions like Zhob, Barkhan, and Musakhel might experience partly cloudy skies with light rain and storms. However, this brief respite will not reach the majority of the province, where dry conditions will persist.

In the last 24 hours, Sibi already recorded a severe temperature of 48.0°C. Other cities such as Turbat and Dalbandin have also reported high temperatures, heavily impacting daily life and increasing residents’ demand for electricity to seek relief from the heat.

Health officials are advising the public to take precautionary measures against the heatwave, such as staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, and wearing light clothing. Elderly individuals and those with health conditions are particularly encouraged to stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day.

Local authorities are also alert to the health risks posed by dust storms, which could exacerbate respiratory illnesses and complicate transportation and daily activities.

As Balochistan faces these challenging weather conditions, the Meteorological Department is continuously monitoring the situation, providing up-to-date information to help residents and authorities make informed decisions to mitigate the effects of the severe weather.
