Maritime Affairs Minister Inaugurates Ladies Cafe at KPT

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering women’s inclusivity and empowerment in the maritime sector, emphasizing supportive work environments for females.

In a landmark event, Chaudhry inaugurated the first-ever ladies cafe at the Karachi Port Trust. He hailed this initiative as a monumental step towards workplace inclusivity. Speaking at the event, he emphasized that the Ladies Cafe is more than just a symbolic gesture. It represents a tangible move towards cultivating a respectful, comfortable, and secure environment where women can excel in their professional endeavors. Chaudhry extended his accolades to the KPT management and the CBA leadership for their pivotal role in bringing this vision to fruition.

The Minister highlighted the significance of women-led marine conservation efforts, such as those empowering fisherwomen in Southeast Asia, which demonstrate the crucial role women play in driving coastal resilience and managing resources sustainably. These initiatives serve as exemplary models for other regions to emulate.

Chaudhry further noted the substantial contributions of women in the maritime and blue economy sectors, emphasizing their role in sustainable marine ecosystem management and economic resilience. He stressed the importance of a holistic approach to empowering women in maritime professions, advancing gender equality, and ensuring that the blue economy supports environmental sustainability and economic empowerment in Pakistan and beyond.

During the event, the Minister personally greeted the women staff at the cafe, reaffirming the government”s dedication to creating supportive and empowering work environments for women in the maritime sector. This initiative not only enhances the workplace experience for female employees at KPT but also underscores broader efforts to promote gender equality and inclusivity within Pakistan’s public sector institutions.
