LARKANA: President, Larkana Chamber of Agriculture (LCA) Larkana Division, Syed Siraj Oliya Rashdi has appealed to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to immediately close the cuts made on Saifullah Magsi Canal to save Sindh from further devastation.
In his statement on Monday, he said that two and a half months ago, cuts were made in Saifullah Magsi Canal by influential people to remove the flood water of Bolan Dam and other areas of Balochistan from their lands. As the cuts are not closed yet, the fertile lands of Sindh are suffering further destruction due to the inflow of toxic water from the waterlogging nullahs. He said if the measures were not taken, Qamber Shahdadkot, Warah, Qubo Saeed Khan, Mehar. KN Shah, Johi, and Sehwan Sharif tehsils will not even have a Rabi crop, due to which the famine situation may lead to more tragedies of human lives.
From the recent floods of 2010 to 2022, millions of flood victims are starving under the open sky despite the passage of more than two and a half months after the recent floods of 2010 and 2022 caused human tragedies and economic destruction under a heinous conspiracy. They are dying due to thirst and epidemics.
On the other hand, NDMA. PDMA is receiving aid of billions of rupees from all over the world in the name of flood victims as humanitarian sympathy. Despite this, hundreds of people have died in Sindh due to flood and the survivors are also close to death. There are no permanent relief operations for the victims from the government. The administration does not provide them with food, tents, drinking water and treatment facilities. People die due to the extreme heat, sun, and lack of food and drinking water. According to an estimate, so far 28 lakh victims of dengue, malaria, 10 lakhs of skin diseases, and more than one thousand people have become victims of dog bites and poisonous snakes in Sindh.
Ironically, despite the passage of 75 days, waterlogging drain cuts have not yet been closed in Kashmore Jacobabad, Shikarpur. Apart from this, the flow of water from Sibi, Naseerabad, Dera Murad Jamali and Jhal Magsi areas of Balochistan from RBOD 3 and Saifullah Magsi Canal and FP Bund continues rapidly, but they have not been stopped by the federal and provincial governments. Due to not taking measures, epidemic diseases are spreading in district Qambar-ShahdadKot with further destruction.
If this situation persists, UC Mirpur of Warah Tehsil will be converted into arsenic wastewater where even now, 6 to 8 feet of flood water is standing in many areas. Due to lack of drainage, fertile lands are turning into lakes of dirty water. Siraj Rashidi added, while demanding projects from the government of Sindh, he said that to immediately restore the land routes to the urban areas including agricultural lands, the cut should be filled forthwith with the help of FWO so that the flood water spreading destruction in a wide area can be diverted.
LCA chief strongly appealed to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and said that he should immediately conduct a judicial inquiry against the conspiratorial elements who destroyed Sindh under a plan and against the incompetent corrupt officers of WAPDA SCARP and the Sindh Irrigation Department. He said that wheat seed and DAP fertilizer should be distributed among the victims in the aid given to the victims from China.
He said that in the recent floods, the RBOD and 90-year-old FP Bund, which is 178 km long, have been destroyed by the flood water coming from Balochistan. In addition, steps should be taken to build fortifications with modern machinery and secure them from FWO experts on an emergency basis before the next monsoon so that such destruction and human tragedies can be avoided in the future.
He said that water, food and treatment facilities are not available in the flood-affected areas, due to which more than 50 human lives have been lost and thousands of people are suffering from various epidemic diseases including malaria and dengue.
