The Jamaat-e-Islami today staged a protest in Attock against what they termed the government’s disastrous economic policies and its failure to alleviate the suffering of the citizens.
Demonstrators criticized escalating electricity, sugar, and petrol costs, accusing the administration of incompetence and a lack of concern for the public’s plight. The rally, organized by the Jamaat-e-Islami Attock District at the behest of national leader Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, commenced at Jamia Masjid Dar-ul-Islam Colony and culminated at Peoples Colony Chowk. District Ameer Sardar Amjad Ali Khan, General Secretary Hafiz Muhammad Bilal, and Tehsil Ameer Hafiz Mian Muhammad Junaid led the procession. Numerous party members participated, carrying signs and banners denouncing inflation, joblessness, and governmental policies.
Speakers at the rally condemned what they described as the administration”s flawed financial decisions, arguing that these choices have made life intolerable for ordinary citizens. They alleged that the government is importing sugar and then re-exporting it at higher rates, citing this as evidence of gross economic mismanagement.
The leaders argued that a government beholden to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) cannot effectively address the nation”s challenges. They expressed concern for the country”s youth, whom they believe are becoming increasingly despondent, and lamented the widening gap between the wealthy and the impoverished. The Jamaat-e-Islami highlighted its work on public concerns through local committees and its members” contributions to relief work in flood-stricken regions.
The speakers called for the nation”s transformation into a genuine welfare democracy and exhorted the ruling class to curtail their lavish spending. They criticized political parties for prioritizing their own interests over the needs of the populace, who they said are deprived of essential amenities. They urged the public to support the Jamaat-e-Islami in its fight against what they described as corrupt and inept governance to establish a just and self-sufficient system.
