Federal Maritime Affairs Minister Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry today discussed the potential Gwadar-Gulf ferry service with Balochista’s Chief Minister in a Friday teleconference, focusing on the project”s strategic importance and scope. The Chief Minister pledged full provincial support, emphasizing the potential socio-economic advantages for Balochistan and the wider region.
Chaudhry chaired a high-level meeting to assess the project’s advancement, reviewing proposals from five private ferry operators. These submissions detailed the technical, operational, and financial aspects of establishing new maritime pathways from Gwadar. The planned ferry routes aim to connect Gwadar Port with major Gulf destinations, providing a cost-effective and efficient option for passenger and cargo transportation.
Minister Chaudhry underscored the initiative”s strategic significance, stating that the service would lower transport expenses and enhance regional trade integration and maritime operations. He emphasized that the project”s successful execution could substantially elevate Pakistan”s maritime standing and transform Gwadar into a key hub within global sea trade networks.
“This ferry service will enhance travel convenience between Pakistan and Gulf nations,” the Minister explained. “It can establish Gwadar as a crucial link in regional connectivity and stimulate sustained economic growth.” The meeting concluded with directives to conduct further assessments of the submitted proposals. Officials were instructed to ensure all regulatory, technical, and logistical factors are thoroughly addressed before the service”s launch.
