Increase in Electric Vehicle Purchases in Pakistan Due to Rising Petrol Prices

According to a survey by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, Pakistanis are increasingly interested in electric motorcycles as an alternative to traditional petrol bikes, primarily due to rising fuel prices.

In all four provinces of Pakistan, about 15% of respondents have considered shifting to electric models to reduce fuel expenses. The survey was conducted from April 11 to April 18, 2025, with 1,038 participants via telephone.

A major portion of the surveyed population, 83%, still prefers petrol-powered motorcycles, and 2% have not yet decided or did not respond, but the shift towards electric alternatives is becoming more apparent as fuel prices continue to rise. This trend highlights the need for more sustainable and economical transportation solutions.

However, there are some barriers to transitioning to electric motorcycles. Issues such as the lack of sufficient charging facilities and the higher initial cost of electric vehicles are significant challenges. Despite these obstacles, the potential savings on fuel costs could be a convincing factor that may accelerate the adoption of electric transportation options in the region.
