The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the appointment of Harry Brook as the new captain of England’s men’s white-ball cricket team, replacing Jos Buttler.

Brook, 26, steps into the leadership role following Buttler’s resignation after the team’s underwhelming performance in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Having been instrumental in England’s batting lineup since 2022, Brook now faces the challenge of steering the team back to winning ways.

Currently ranked second in the ICC men’s test batting rankings, Brook has served as vice-captain in both ODIs and T20Is over the past year. His leadership capabilities were highlighted during his captaincy debut against Australia in September 2024, where his strategic approach and composed demeanor were widely commended.

Buttler’s captaincy commenced triumphantly with England’s T20 World Cup victory in 2022 but was marred by subsequent setbacks, including the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and a failed title defense in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Brook’s previous experience includes captaining England U19s during the 2018 ICC Men’s U19 World Cup, equipping him with a foundation for his new role.
