Christians celebrate Easter in Pakistan

KARACHI: Christians celebrated Easter, the annual religious festivity, across the country amid cheers.

They offered special prayers at their holy places for peace, progress, and prosperity. Teachings of Jesus Christ were highlighted while lawmen made special arrangements to maintain peace and security.

Noted people expressed greetings to Christians at the event and laid stress on following the teaching of Christ Jesus to promote interfaith harmony, patience, and prosperity. Islam gives equal rights to the minorities and the Constitution grants minorities equal participation in all walks of life in Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Sunday wished the Christian community in Pakistan and around the world on the eve of Happy Easter and said Pakistan greatly valued and lauded the services of Christian Pakistanis rendered in all walks of life since the creation of Pakistan.

“Let us all spread the shared message of peace, inclusivity and love,” he said in a Twitter message. Former president and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also wished the Easter greetings to the Christian community. Bilawal was hopeful that Easter would enhance inter-religious harmony in the country and elsewhere in the world.
