Newborn baby kidnapped from Karachi hospital

KARACHI: A newborn baby was kidnapped from a private hospital in Karachi’s Gulberg area on Sunday.

According to police, a woman told the family that she was taking the baby boy to an intensive care unit (ICU) and when they went to check on the infant.

On being informed, a police team reached the hospital and launched an investigation into the matter. Three employees of the medical facility have been taken into custody for interrogation. CCTV footage shows two women whisking away the baby. All the CCTV cameras installed at the hospital were non-functional.

Punjab Governor inquires after Pervaiz Elahi’s health

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Umar Sarfraz Cheema on Sunday visited PML-Q leader and Punjab Assembly Speaker Ch Pervaiz Elahi to inquire after his health.

During their meeting, Elahi apprised the governor of the details of the mayhem that was witnessed in the Punjab Assembly during the election for new chief minister of the province yesterday. Elahi, who was contesting for the CM slot got injured during the ruckus in the Punjab Assembly and broke his arm.

Yesterday talking to media, he ruled that he did well for the Sharif family but what he got in return was broken arm by the PML-N men. He said that the violation of the sanctity of the House was reprehensible and unfortunate.

Governor seeks report on Punjab assembly ruckus

LAHORE: Governor Punjab Omar Sarfraz Cheema on Sunday condemned ruckus in the Punjab Assembly during the election of Chief Minister Punjab and sought report from the secretary regarding the violent incidents.

The governor sought report from the assembly secretariat while directing them to clarify four questions in this regard. The governor Punjab asked if the deputy speaker conducted the assembly proceedings from rostrum or from the gallery, if Parvez Elahi was tortured in the assembly hall, and if police entered the assembly hall.

Omar Sarfraz Cheema also directed the secretary of the assembly to provide footages of the assembly. The sources said that the governor has asked the secretary to submit the report by 12:00 noon today.

Newly-elected Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz has also announced his plan to hold an inquiry into the Punjab Assembly brawl in which the lawmakers attacked deputy speaker and Pervaiz Elahi today.

Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Hamza Shahbaz was elected Chief Minister Punjab after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and allied parties boycotted the session after a ruckus which saw police enter the house.

Hamza Shehbaz, while speaking on the floor after being elected as the new Punjab CM, said that police entered the Punjab Assembly today which was not a good tradition. He added that police would have arrived inside the assembly if the deputy speaker is tortured. Hamza said that he wanted to congratulate the police officials for their role today.

Woman, youth gunned down in ghastly incident of Karo-Kari

MORO: A woman and youth were shot dead allegedly for having illicit relations in village Mohabat Lashari within the precincts of Sidhoja police station on Sunday.

According to police, the ghastly incident took place in Mohabbat Lashari village near Moro town of Sindh, where accused shot dead Saddam Magsi, aged 28, son of Ameerjan Magsi, and Zameeran Magsi, 35, wife of Maula Bux Magsi. The accused fled soon after committing the crime.

The police shifted their bodies to Moro hospital for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to the heirs. The incident has created a mourning atmosphere in the village, while a tense situation also prevailed. The police have started a probe into the incident. No arrest could be reported till filing this news.

Health Secretary visits Quetta Hospital

QUETTA: Saleh Muhammad Nasar, Secretary, Health Department visited Emergency Department and different wards of SPH during his surprise visit to Sandeman Provincial Hospital Quetta, according to a statement issued here on Sunday.

Praising the meeting of Pakistan Medical Association, Young Doctors Association with Medical Superintendent, SPH, Quetta and Deputy, Medical Superintendent, SPH, Quetta convened for bringing about a change in the affairs of the hospital, Nasar said measures in consultation with all stakeholders were inevitable to be adopted for improving the condition of the hospital. On the occasion, Secretary, Health Department issued directives for shifting neuro surgery ward and ENT ward to Ditu ward in order to overcome the deficiency of beds.

On the occasion, Medical Superintendent, SPH, Quetta, Dr. Amin Khan Mandokhail, DMS, Dr. Naseem Katkezai, Managing Director, Trauma Centre, Dr. Syed Yasir Hussain Shah, Dr. Azeemullah Babar, Dr. Aftab Kakar of Pakistan Medical Association, Dr. Hafeez Mandokhail of Young Doctors Association, Dr. Rahim Babar, Aurangzaib Kakar, Dr. Tahir Agha and others were also present.

Misinformation, propaganda threatens state integrity: Bajwa

RAWALPINDI: Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa said Sunday that misinformation and propaganda threatens state integrity requiring timely and unified response to effectively counter speculations and rumours.

According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), he was interacting with garrison officers and veterans in two separate interactive sessions during his visit to Lahore Garrison on Sunday. He said Army draw its strength from people and any effort to create wedge between army and population won’t be tolerated. The hostile forces are trying this for a long time but they won’t succeed, Insha Allah.

He appreciated Lahore Corps for maintaining high standards of operational preparedness and training. He was received by Corps Commander Lieutenant General Muhammad Abdul Aziz. The Army Chief also visited Combined Military Hospital Lahore and inquired about the well-being of Major Haris who was manhandled and injured in a road rage incident recently. He said that law will take its course and perpetrators, who are under arrest, will be brought to justice. He assured that no one can be allowed to take law into their hands.

Three arrested for charging extra parking fee

RAJANPUR: The district administration arrested three contractors of parking stands for charging extra parking fee from the citizens during an operation launched here on Sunday.

As per directives of Deputy Commissioner, the Assistant Commissioner City conducted surprise visits of parking stands at different hospitals of the city. The officers arrested three contractors of parking stands at Naveed hospital, Noor Jamal hospital and District Headquarters Hospitals.

Speaking on the occasion, the AC said that the Deputy Commissioner had given him task to identify people charging extra parking fee from the citizens and launch strict action against involved persons. He said that he himself would monitor the parking fee and added the violators would not only be fined but FIRs would also be registered against them.

Two youngsters killed as trailer hits bike near Khairpur

TANDO MASTI: Two youth were killed in a road accident near Tando Masti in district Khairpur Sunday.

According to police, two youngsters were on their way for some work on the bike which was hit by a fast-moving trailer on the National Highway at Moosani stop near Tando Masti. As a result, both died. The deceased were identified as Ahsan Ali Lashari and Sabir Ali Lashari. The driver managed to flee to an unknown destination soon after the accident.

Police shifted their bodies to a local hospital for medico-legal formalities and later handed over to the heirs. The trailer driver fled soon after the accident. The police have started a probe into the incident besides launching search for the fleeing driver. The incident has created a mourning atmosphere in the victims’ housed.

Rawalpindi businessmen demand security on eve of Eid

RAWALPINDI: Trade bodies of the city on Sunday demanded that the Rawalpindi district administration should increase security around all markets areas as Eid shopping is gaining momentum with each passing day.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the security arrangements made for shopping areas, they said the deployment of police personnel was insufficient as compared to the great hustle and bustle of visitors there. President of Markazi Anjuman-e-Tajran Sharjeel Mir said there should be police officers in plain clothes present in vulnerable areas and ready to converge on a single whistle in case of an emergency.

Besides, he said, many beggars apparently seek alms but were also involved in criminal activities like pick-pocketing and snatching different items from the people visiting the markets. President of Moti Bazar Chaudhry Iqbal also asked the quarters concerned to beef up the security of city markets, especially during nighttime.

When contacted, City Police Officer (CPO) Umer Saeed Malik assured that foolproof security arrangements were being made to give a special cover to shopping areas so that customers and traders could feel a sense of security. He said that traffic police had also deputed wardens in all city shopping centres for the smooth flow of traffic.
