Security forces killed two militants, including an Afghan national, during an intelligence-based operation in Mohmand district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security sources said on Thursday.
According to officials, the operation was carried out on June 4 as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle militant networks operating in the region.
The Afghan militant was identified as Umar Bilal, a resident of Afghanistan’s Khost province. Security officials said he was found carrying an Afghan identity card, foreign currency, advanced weapons, and a suicide vest at the time of the operation.
The development comes amid intensified counter-terrorism operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where security forces have been targeting militant hideouts and groups linked to recent attacks.
In a related escalation, Pakistan recently conducted cross-border strikes against militant sanctuaries along the Afghan frontier. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said at least 26 militants were killed in those operations.
Officials said the strikes were launched in response to a series of attacks on security installations in areas including Musa Dara, North Waziristan, and Bannu.
Pakistan has witnessed a sustained increase in militant violence in recent years, particularly in its northwestern and southwestern regions, prompting expanded security operations in border areas.
