Silk Road Heritage Emphasised at UNESCO Event

Pakistan’s Ambassador Mumtaz Zahra Baloch has said that strengthening intercultural understanding and promoting peaceful cooperation remain essential pillars of global stability, as she addressed a UNESCO seminar marking the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations.

The seminar, held under the theme of Traditions of the Silk Road and Intercultural Dialogue, brought together participants to reflect on shared cultural heritage and the historic role of civilisations connected through ancient trade routes, according to a statement today.

Ambassador Baloch underscored the significance of reviving the spirit of the Silk Road by fostering mutual respect, cultural diversity, constructive engagement, and enhanced dialogue among nations. She also highlighted UNESCO’s central role in advancing multilateral cooperation and encouraging meaningful global interaction.

She further outlined the historical importance of the Gandhara civilisation, noting Taxila’s strategic position as a key crossroads along the Silk Road, which facilitated the exchange of ideas, culture, and commerce across regions.

The event formed part of day-long commemorations of the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations. Pakistani cuisine was also featured, showcasing the country’s cultural diversity as part of the broader Silk Road heritage.
