Acting President Pledges Full Support to Bolster Pakistan’s Textile Backbone Amid Agricultural Challenges

Amid growing concerns over cotton output and agricultural deficiencies, Acting President Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani on Friday reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to providing maximum support to Pakistan’s textile industry, describing the sector as the essential backbone of the nation’s exports.

The Acting President’s remarks came during a visit to the Mahmood Group of Textile Mills in the Multan Industrial Estate, where he was briefed on the company’s advanced operations.

During the tour, the head of the group, Khawaja Muhammad Anees, detailed the facility’s use of modern machinery, world-class production standards, and sustainable industrial practices. He informed the dignitary about the company’s labour welfare initiatives and robust ongoing export orders, highlighting its significant contribution to Pakistan’s foreign trade.

Acting President Gillani commended the Mahmood Group for its performance and pivotal role in strengthening the national economy through high-quality fabric production and consistent export growth. He praised the organization’s adoption of environmentally responsible manufacturing processes.

A detailed discussion during the visit addressed the broader state of the garment manufacturing sector, focusing on critical issues such as cotton output and related agricultural challenges. Gillani stressed that with textiles being fundamental to Pakistan’s exports, it was imperative to improve seed quality, modernize irrigation systems, and enhance agricultural research to support both farmers and the industrial value chain.

He assured that the government is dedicated to creating a business-friendly environment and offering maximum facilitation to promote industrial activity. The Acting President lauded the private sector’s vital role in boosting the country’s economic development, creating employment opportunities, and driving export expansion. Senior government officials, industrialists, and other relevant authorities were also present.
