Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh leader Kashif Saeed Sheikh termed the International Court of Arbitration’s decision a success for Pakistan and condemned India’s violations of the Indus Waters Treaty. He emphasized the importance of the Indus River for the nation, especially Sindh. He said India’s illegal activities, through controlling water and other violations, are harming Pakistan’s agriculture, proving its animosity against the country.
Sheikh praised the court’s decision, calling India’s action illegal and a victory for international justice. He stressed that the treaty, brokered by the World Bank between the two countries, is a bilateral agreement that India cannot unilaterally change or terminate and any amendment requires mutual consent.
The Indus River sustains the lives of 240 million Pakistanis, including the population of Sindh. Sheikh warned that India’s plan to deprive Pakistan of water resources will fail, like the controversial Pulwama incident. He warned India against any aggressive action, citing past failures, and vowed a strong response to any attempts to restrict the flow of the Indus River.
