An Additional District and Sessions Judge in Rawalpindi on Saturday approved the bail of former Senator and senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Chaudhry Tanveer in the Chaudhry Adnan murder case.
The court ordered his release upon submission of two surety bonds worth Rs01-million each. The verdict was announced by Judge Majid Hussain Gadi after completion of arguments from both sides.
The judge observed that no solid evidence had been presented against the accused and remarked that no individual can be detained for an extended period without substantial proof.
The court directed that the accused must ensure his presence during future court proceedings. Defense counsel Chaudhry Yasir stated that Chaudhry Tanveer had successfully proven his innocence, and no evidence was presented linking him to any conspiracy regarding the murder.
He further added that the required surety bonds would be submitted to the court shortly. Upon acceptance of bail and receipt of the release order by the Superintendent of Adiala Jail, the process for Chaudhry Tanveer’s release will be completed.
It is worth noting that Chaudhry Tanveer had voluntarily surrendered himself before the Rawalpindi High Court a few days ago. After completion of physical remand, he was sent to jail under judicial custody. Later, due to health concerns, he was shifted to the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC).
Chaudhry Tanveer was accused of conspiring in the murder of former Member of the Punjab Assembly and ex-Parliamentary Secretary for Revenue, Chaudhry Adnan. The FIR was lodged on February 12, 2024 at the Civil Lines Police Station. Alongside Chaudhry Tanveer, Usama Chaudhry, Daniyal Chaudhry, and Chaudhry Changez were also named in the case.
Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA Chaudhry Muhammad Adnan was shot dead near the Civil Lines area, in front of the city police officer’s (CPO) office, on February 12, 2024. Adnan had contested the general elections from Rawalpindi’s NA-57 and PP-19 constituencies.
