World Bank Hails Pakistan’s Economic Turnaround as ‘Exemplary’

The World Bank has hailed Pakistan’s recent economic turnaround as “exemplary”, with its senior leadership describing the country’s macroeconomic recovery as a model for others under the Bank’s global partnership framework.

The Pakistan’s Government using its X on social media stated that the endorsement came during a meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and a highlevel World Bank delegation led by Managing Director of Operations Anna Bjerde in Islamabad. The engagement highlighted Pakistan’s recent strides toward economic stabilization and reform.

Anna Bjerde, while praising the government’s policy direction, remarked that Pakistan had ‘achieved the impossible’ through its decisive measures for macroeconomic stability. She attributed this progress to the ‘effective and visionary decisions’ of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to a statement shared by the Government of Pakistan on its official social media platforms.

‘This is now being referred to as the ‘Pakistan Model’ within the World Bank’s partnership framework for other countries to emulate,’ Bjerde noted, underscoring the significance of Pakistan’s recovery in the Bank’s broader strategic context.
