Water scarcity in Rohri Canal system deepens

KARACHI: The Superintending Engineer Rohri Canal Circle Hyderabad Thursday announced that there is acute water shortage in Indus river as well as in whole main Rohri Canal system in Kharif season which is started from the month of 1st April 2022.

According to an official handout, the agriculturist and farming community settled in the command area of Rohri Canal have been informed that sudden shortfall in Indus had occurred and presently the river is flowing at run of river, which resulted in acute shortage of water. There is apprehension of more reduction in the supply of irrigation water.

In view of the above circumstances and alarming water shortage, it is informed to the peasants that the water supply is available “only for drinking purpose” and “not for agricultural purpose”. In case of any Abadgars/ Zamindar raised cultivation in present situation of water supply, they will be fully responsible at their own risk and cost.
