Turkmenistan Pushes Afghanistan to Expedite Land Process for TAPI Gas Project

Turkmenistan has formally urged Afghanistan to accelerate the land acquisition process for the crucial Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) natural gas pipeline, a critical step to advance the multinational energy initiative, Trend reports, citing Afghanistan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock.

According to an official report today, the call for faster progress on land procurement was a central topic during a high-level meeting between Murad Amanov, the head of the TAPI project, and Mullah Attaullah Omari, Afghanistan’s acting Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock. The talks were also attended by Hoja Ovezov, Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan.

During the engagement, Amanov updated the Afghan officials on the practical advancements of the extensive project. He specifically requested an acceleration of procedures related to securing land and the determination of land prices, stressing that these actions should align with the framework agreement signed by the four participating nations.

Meanwhile, logistical preparations for the pipeline’s construction are moving forward. Vessels operated by the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO) have commenced transporting pipes designated for the TAPI initiative.

These shipments are being conducted from the Baku Port to the Turkmenbashi International Seaport. As part of the ongoing construction process, the shipping company is expected to deliver a total of 11,700 pipes to their destination by the end of the year.
