Special court allows PTI chief to talk to his sons on phone

ISLAMABAD: A court established under the Official Secrets Act on Wednesday ordered superintendent Adiala Jail to allow PTI chairman to talk to his sons on phone.

Special court judge Abul Hasnaat Zulqarnain conducted hearing of the PTI chairman’s plea seeking directions for superintendent to allow him to talk to his sons on phone. After the break as the proceedings started, Judge Abul Hasnaat said according to SoPs the accused was not allowed to talk to someone on phone. He however said the court would see the matter keeping in view the jail manual.

Defence counsel Sheraz Ranjha said as per Official Secrets Act the accused was allowed to talk to his family over the phone. The accused, under the Prisoners

Rules could avail facility to meet his family in jail, he said. The other accused were also allowed to talk to avail facility of phone. The judge asked the defence counsel to show the court permission for an accused to talk to his family members abroad.

Upon that, Ranjha said Jail Manual did not allow accused to do so, but Federal Shariat Court (FSC) had issued a ruling in this regard. He also submitted the FSC ruling in the court. Judge Zulqarnain then ruled that PTI chairman should be allowed to talk to his sons on phone. He directed the superintendent Adiala Jail to let PTI chief talk to his sons over phone under his own supervision.
