Single document regime: Citizens threaten to disallow polls in Chaman

CHAMAN, Ghous-ud-Din, General Secretary, Laghari Ittehad, has said if the demands of the protesters observing sit-in in Chaman for the last 58 days were not accepted, no one would be allowed to contest election in district Chaman.

Talking to media here on Monday, he said that All Parties, Chaman, Anjuman-e-Tajiran Chaman and Laghari Ittehad have been observing protest sit in Chaman for the last 58 days against “single document regime policy” introduced for travelling between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

He added that protest sit-in would also be staged outside the offices of Returning Officers in Chaman on December 19-20, 2023 and no one would be allowed to submit nomination forms for contesting the forthcoming general election. On the occasion, Sadiq Achakzai, spokesman for Laghari Ittehad said that instead of closing border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, government ought to have taken action against terrorists.

On the other hand, Jan Achakzai, Caretaker Minister for Information said decision regarding repatriation of undocumented Afghan refugees and introducing “single document regime policy” was taken owing to the deteriorating law and order situation in the country.
