Sindh terms Punjab’s wheat support price as farmers’ enemy

KARACHI: The Sindh government termed the Punjab government’s decision to set the support price of wheat at Rs3,000 per maund as an enemy of the farmers.

The Sindh Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Coastal Development, Ismail Rahoo in his statement termed the Punjab government’s decision to set the support price of wheat at Rs 3,000 as an enemy of farmers and further said that Pervez Elahi government should immediately withdraw that decision. Pakistan People’s Party has always given better price of sugarcane and wheat to the farmers than other governments, he added.

Mr Rahoo further said that the Punjab government should be aware of the increase in the prices of DAP, urea fertilizer and diesel. PTI is an anti-labour party, and this decision of Imran Khan will destroy farmers and agriculture, as it is exploitation of farmers of the province that produces the most wheat.

He said that due to this decision of the Punjab government, Pakistan might suffer from food shortage, while the farmers of Punjab were disappointed because of not getting a good price for wheat. Sindh had proposed to Punjab to fix the support price of wheat at Rs4,000 per 40kg.

The minister said that PTI’s vision was to buy cheap wheat from farmers and benefit mafias. Parvez Elahi deliberately set the support price of wheat at Rs3,000 per 40kg, so that a wheat crisis could arise in the country. He said that due to the flood situation in the country, there was a fear of less wheat harvest next year, as there was still 3 to 5 feet deeo rain water in the lands.
