Expressing concern over the increasing road accidents in the city, Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah ordered the restructuring of the Traffic Engineering Bureau.
Presiding over the meeting, the Chief Minister said that following the restructuring of the Traffic Engineering Bureau, it would be given under the control of the Mayor of the metroplis.
According to the spokesperson of CM Sindh, the CM mandated the installation of trackers and dashcams in heavy and light transport vehicles. He set a speed limit of 30 kilometers per hour for heavy transport vehicles.
The meeting was attended by provincial ministers and relevant officials. It was revealed during the meeting that in 2024, 1,607,065 challans (traffic violation tickets) were issued in Karachi, collecting fines amounting to 1,336 million rupees.
Chief Minister also made random drug testing mandatory and instructed the impounding of vehicles with canceled fitness certificates. Additionally, he emphasized the effective enforcement and coordinated implementation of traffic laws.
It was reported that actions were taken against 512,190 vehicles, and 11,287 drivers were detained. The Chief Minister directed the introduction of a faceless automated system for transparent e-ticketing.
The meeting concluded that the Transport Department, Excise, Licensing Authority, Traffic Police, and NADRA will be interconnected. The Chief Minister mandated international standard training before issuing driving licenses.
A crackdown on illegal number plates, tinted windows, unauthorized sirens, and lights was ordered to be intensified.
A high-level committee was established for the immediate implementation of the decisions, to be overseen by the Inspector General of Police.
