Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, in his message on Defence and Martyrs Day today, recalled the 1965 war as a testament to Pakistan’s resilience and ability to defend its sovereignty.

He praised the armed forces for thwarting the enemy”s advancements, drawing parallels to a recent unspecified conflict, “Marka-e-Haq,” where he said the nation displayed similar unity. Sharif lauded the military’s professionalism and strategic vision, crediting them with setting new standards of excellence under Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

The Prime Minister paid homage to the martyrs and veterans, acknowledging their sacrifices. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to peaceful global engagement but stressed the importance of maintaining robust defenses in light of what he termed “persistent Indian provocations” and a shifting regional landscape. He vowed to continue modernizing defense capabilities while combatting state-sponsored terrorism and foreign agents operating within the country”s borders. Sharif praised law enforcement and the armed forces for their progress in addressing these threats, assuring them of the nation”s full support.

Sharif expressed solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), condemning their alleged ongoing oppression. He also strongly denounced Israeli actions in Palestine, urging international intervention to protect civilians and provide humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The premier emphasized the link between national security and economic stability, calling for national unity and collaboration for prosperity. He urged the nation to uphold the founding principles of faith, unity, and discipline to build a secure and thriving Pakistan.
