SEPRA to provide power tariff with 30% to 40% discount, tells Shah

Sindh Provincial Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said on Monday that the Sindh Electric Power Regulatory Authority (SEPRA) would be a fully authorized organization in Sindh for power generation, distribution and transmission.

It will be the first autonomous organization in Sindh which will make its own decisions as compared to NEPRA, he informed at an awareness meeting held in the Sindh Energy Department’s office regarding the SEPRA legislation. Secretary Energy Mossadiq Ahmed Khan and Member Nepra Rafiq Ahmed Sheikh were also present.

He said: ” As per the vision of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, we are with every decision that can provide relief to the people and welfare to the people and fully support every institution or project which is in accordance with the hopes and aspirations of the people.”

The energy minister said that the purpose of setting up SEPRA Board was to provide cheap electricity tariff to the people, adding SEPRA’s fixed electricity tariff would be available with 30% to 40% discount. Shah said that a plan to establish a mini-grid station in every district in the entire province was alsom under consideration. He said that the board members of SEPRA would be selected on merit and in a transparent manner, while the members and parts of the board would be experienced.

It may be noted that in April, the Sindh Cabinet in its meeting approved the establishment of the Sindh Electric Power Regulatory Authority (SEPRA). The cabinet meeting was chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at CM House.
