Retro reflective number plates launched in Sindh

KARACHI: Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, said on Thursday that the launch of retro reflective number plates with security features is a great achievement of Sindh Excise Department and behind this vision, there are PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a function at the Motor Registration Wing Civic Center Karachi on the occasion of the launch of the new number plates. Secretary Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department Atif Rehman, Director General Aurangzeb Panhwar, Directors Waheed Sheikh, Samina Bhutto, Shabana Baloch, MD SPPRA Haleem Sheikh and former DG E and T Shoaib Siddiqui were also present. On the occasion, Secretary Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department Atif Rehman gave a briefing on new number plates.

Addressing the ceremony, Chawla added that the new number plates had several security features as they were security featured retro reflective. They are easily visible in the dark of night, he added. He said,” These number plates have an aluminum sheet and a barcode. Chawla said that it was not possible to make a duplicate of them. Soon traffic police will be able to get all the details of vehicles through these number plates and this will make it easier to catch stolen vehicles, says Kumar.

He said: “We are also grateful to the Sindh High Court that it helped the Sindh government in launching these new number plates. The inauguration of the new number plates is a matter of great pride. The number plates of Sindh are unique. Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari wants to see Sindh on the path of innovation. These number plates will also help in maintaining law and order.

Chawla said that the tax collection of Sindh Excise department was improving day by day. ‘Sindh Excise Department is moving towards innovation. Online tax filing is also available. In the first phase, these number plates will be given on new registration.”

He said that efforts were being made to issue new number plates to as many vehicles as possible within a year. Car owners were also given new number plates at the ceremony. Later talking to the media, Chawla said that the PTI government had imposed excessive taxes. Due to which the owners of the vehicles faced severe difficulties. Replying to a question, he said that the department was working for the eradication of corruption.
