KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Industries, Commerce and Cooperative Department Jam Ikramullah Dharejo said on Wednesday that due to the recent monsoon rains and floods, there was a large-scale destruction in Sukkur, while livestock and agriculture had also been destroyed in Sukkur district.

Dharejo further said that the floods had destroyed 60 percent of the roads in Sukkur district, while more than 40,000 houses had been damaged in Sukkur district, including his constituency. He said: in Sukkur, standing crops on one lakh and thirty five thousand acres had been destroyed. There was an urgent need for 30,000 more tents in Sukkur district, he added.

Dharejo said that more than 75,000 mosquito nets were also needed in Sukkur district, adding that the Sindh government had been spraying the flood affected areas to keep the people safe from epidemics while free medicines and other facilities were also being provided at the medical camps.

He said that the work of providing ration to the flood victims was going on by Sindh government. There is also a dire need for providing 90,000 ration bags in Sukkur district. The minister said: “We are going through a difficult time. Sindh government stands with its people in this difficult time.”
