Floodwaters are receding across Punjab, bringing a measure of relief to the inundated province, but leaving behind a grim toll of 134 fatalities, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported today.

Director General Irfan Ali Kathia stated river currents are at normal levels throughout the region, with water levels in previously submerged districts dropping significantly. The Sutlej River, however, continues to experience moderate to low flooding. Hill torrents in the Dera Ghazi Khan Division have ceased flowing. The PDMA’s latest report confirms the 134 deaths attributed to the widespread deluge. Over 4.7 million residents have been impacted by the inundation. A comprehensive damage assessment survey will commence tomorrow, the agency announced.
