In a significant development following a recent government crackdown on the proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), the entire security detail for Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz is undergoing a comprehensive vetting process to neutralize any potential insider threats.

The move to overhaul the Chief Minister’s security arrangements was initiated in response to heightened security challenges posed by banned outfits, particularly after the TLP operation and the expulsion of Afghan nationals from the province. Inspector General (IG) Punjab Police, Usman Anwar, confirmed that while the Chief Minister continues her official duties without fear, it was imperative to reinforce the security parameters around her.

According to media reports citing official sources, the review is a thorough and wide-ranging initiative. The objective is to meticulously verify the background of every individual assigned to the Chief Minister’s protection, extending from her residence in Jati Umra to the CM Office and the family’s home in Model Town.

The scrutiny is not limited to security personnel alone; other staff members associated with these key locations are also being examined. Police sources indicated that the assessment delves into the political leanings and religious affiliations of the staff to identify any potential risks.

Any individual found to have connections with religious groups or other suspicious organizations will be immediately removed from their duties at the Chief Minister’s Office or Jati Umra.
