Prime Minister To Attend Key SCO Summits In China

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will travel to Tianjin, China, to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State (CHS) and the SCO CHS Plus meeting from August 31 to September 1, 2025, at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The SCO CHS gathering will include leaders from member nations such as Pakistan, Belarus, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

The expanded SCO CHS Plus meeting will also host leaders from Mongolia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Trkiye, Egypt, the Maldives, Myanmar, Turkmenistan, Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Representatives from the United Nations and other international bodies will also be present.

Prime Minister Sharif will address critical regional and international matters at the SCO CHS Summit, emphasizing ways to enhance the organization’s contribution to regional stability and collaboration. As the SCO’s primary decision-making forum, the CHS provides strategic direction, issuing declarations and decisions that guide the group’s activities.

At the CHS Plus meeting, the Prime Minister will reiterate Pakistan’s dedication to multilateralism, regional security, and sustainable progress.

In addition to the summit sessions, Sharif will engage in bilateral discussions with various heads of state and government to bolster diplomatic ties.
