The polio immunization campaign was inaugurated in Muzaffarabad by Government Minister Professor Taqdees Gilani and District Health Officer Dr. Abdul Mateen as they administered polio drops and Vitamin A supplements to children. This campaign is set to run from May 26 to May 30, 2025, targeting children under five years old across the district.
The Department of Public Health has completed all necessary preparations to ensure the success of this national campaign, with the primary objective of eradicating polio from the country. Dr. Abdul Mateen stated that during the campaign, 123,734 children will receive polio drops, and 111,140 will receive Vitamin A supplements.
To achieve these targets, 764 mobile teams, 67 fixed sites, and 19 transit points have been established, operating from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. For effective supervision, 49 Union Council Medical Officers and 156 area incharges will oversee the teams, ensuring they have the necessary vaccines and equipment and collecting daily performance records for the district control room.
Dr. Abdul Mateen appealed to parents, teachers, lawyers, and citizens from all walks of life to cooperate with the visiting teams to ensure the campaign’s success. Azad Kashmir has remained poliofree for the past 25 years. Citizens are urged to contact the provided telephone numbers or visit the nearest EPI center if the mobile teams do not reach their homes during the campaign dates.
