Pakistan paid homage to over 8,300 fallen police officers on Monday, observing Youm-e-Shuhada-e-Police (Police Martyrs Day) with nationwide ceremonies.

The primary event took place at the National Police Bureau (NPB) in Islamabad, co-hosted by the Association of Former Inspectors General of Police (AFIGP). Dignitaries, including senior law enforcement officials, community representatives, students, business figures, newly inducted DSPs from Sindh, and bereaved families, attended the gathering.

The ceremony included a guard of honour, a salute, and wreath-laying at the Shuhada Yadgar. Leading the tributes were AFIGP President and former IGP Afzal Ali Shigri, former IGP Dr Syed Kaleem Imam, and NPB Director Capt (rted) Atta Muhammad. Attendees also participated in Fateha Khawani, viewed a commemorative slideshow, and shared personal reflections.

Shigri underscored the police force’s immense sacrifices in confronting terrorism and organized crime. “Thousands of officers have embraced martyrdom and countless others have been injured to ensure the safety and tranquility of Pakistan’s citizens,” he stated, emphasizing that their valor “inspires fellow officers to pursue excellence and maintain the highest standards.”

Parallel events were conducted at police lines and memorials across the country, where armed squads presented salutes and honored the fallen officers.
